Haley Moonias-Roan

Environmental Monitor & Serial services | WildLand Firefighter

Haley Brook Moonias-Roan is a dedicated Indigenous environmental professional, entrepreneur, and land steward from Treaty 6 territory, proudly belonging to the Mountain Cree Community of Ermineskin Cree Nation. Working on the front lines of environmental protection and emergency response, she serves as an Environmental Monitor and Alberta Wildland Firefighter. As Founder and Operator of Kaizen Forestry Services (KTFS Wildland)— an Indigenous-owned enterprise currently in its foundational and finalization phase—she is developing specialized services across Alberta, including environmental monitoring, FireSmart operations, wildfire response, and holistic land-based stewardship.

Currently pursuing her pilot certification, Haley is building toward a future centered on aerial monitoring, advanced wildfire intelligence gathering, and the integration of aviation into emergency response frameworks. Rooted in the traditional teachings and wisdom of her ancestors, her approach bridges Indigenous knowledge systems with contemporary environmental science, cutting-edge technology, and aviation practices—fostering respectful, sustainable innovation.

Through her hands-on fieldwork and emerging business leadership, Haley actively champions greater Indigenous participation in environmental and natural resource careers. She addresses systemic barriers—including access to training, safety standards, equitable opportunities, and pathways for long-term career sustainability—while creating meaningful entry points and support structures for the next generation.

As a recipient of the 2025 TC Energy Indigenous Legacy Scholarship, Haley brings lived experience, operational insight, and a visionary perspective to critical conversations around reconciliation, Indigenous workforce development, and the evolving future of Canada’s environmental and natural resource sectors.

Land Acknowledgment

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we acknowledge that we live, work, and gather on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, including the Blackfoot Confederacy—comprising the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations—as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina Nations.

This land, known as Moh’kinsstis in the Blackfoot language and encompassing what is now Districts 5 and 6, is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.

We recognize and honour the deep connection these Nations have to the land, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share in its stewardship.

As we continue our work, we commit to learning from Indigenous knowledge systems, uplifting Indigenous voices, and fostering relationships rooted in equity, understanding, and reconciliation.
