The Canadian Youth Success Strategy:

The Role We All Have to Play

In 2023, ODEN trained six organizations in British Columbia, Manitoba, and Nova Scotia to deliver the workshop – Employment: The Gold Standard for Inclusion. Most of these organizations and other local employment service providers were trained on an Employment Discovery curriculum called jobPath ©. And 100 licenses have been made accessible to businesses in the communities we trained to access the ODEN developed Disability Awareness and Confidence Training (DACT). All of these activities and resources are meant to create local capacity to hire more inclusively youth who have a disability.

The Canadian YSS project is currently in year two and has two additional goals:
  • Train six regional offices of the YMCA Greater Toronto Area to deliver ODEN’s family workshop.
  • Partnership with DistinctAbility (Nova Scotia) to develop additional employment discovery resources.

ODEN will continue to work with these communities to advance employment opportunities for youth who have developmental disabilities.

This presentation will describe the Canadian Youth Success Strategy – the research that informed it and its activities. It will also review its key outcomes and outputs. Emphasis will be placed on the role that all have to play in ensuring youth who have a developmental disability are prepared for a future that includes employment.
