Award Criterias
Celebrate excellence in environmental sustainability by nominating deserving professionals and organizations for different awards. Learn about the criteria and process to honour those making impactful contributions to a greener future.
EP®, EPt, EP® Auditor Impact Award
Submitted via Member Spotlight. All certified members are eligible to be nominated for an ECO Impact Award by the public/a peer or are eligible to nominate themselves, provided they meet the following criteria:
- Hold at least one EP® designation in good standing (up to date on payment and annual/term renewal requirements)
- Have not been nominated in another category (if an employer is nominated as Top Employer or ECO Community Award, that is acceptable)
- The member has submitted the appropriate member spotlight form detailing their career experience and contributions and value placed on their designation. Applicants are encouraged to detail their overall contribution to the sector and can include examples of exemplifying passion, knowledge and leadership through a single project, or multiple projects.

Top Employer Award
Organizations that employ at least one certified member, and organizations who have obtained the EP® Employer designation are eligible to be nominated for an ECO Impact Award by the public or one of their employees/clients, provided they meet the following criteria:
- The certified member(s) under their employment are in good standing / their EP® Employer designation is in good standing, meaning they are up to date on payment and annual / term requirements.
- Have not been nominated in the Community Impact Award category.
- The organization has made a positive contribution to the sector over the last 2 years. Examples of positive contributions include a positive environmental impact or initiative led by the organization.
- The organization can demonstrate alignment with the EP® Employer and ECO Canada values.
Note: Employees of nominated companies are not eligible to vote.
All nominated organizations will be asked to submit a summary of how their organization meets criteria #3 and #4 above in addition to a 3-5 minute video in support of their nomination.

EPt Student Paper Award
The ECO IMPACT 2025 Environmental Professional-in-Training (EPt) Student Paper Award recognizes the pioneering efforts of EPt Students in the realm of environmental research. This award seeks to honour those who:
Rules surrounding nominations:
- Lead groundbreaking research and innovative projects.
- Craft unique solutions addressing environmental challenges.
- Offer insights into areas like sustainable urban development, the circular economy, and biodiversity conservation.
- Exhibit creative problem-solving in environmental sustainability.
While the award celebrates one standout submission, ECO Canada acknowledges the contributions of all EPt Students. We will contact those who nominated themselves to request their full papers. The selected recipient will be granted a free ticket (valued at $650) to IMPACT 2025, and their achievements will be highlighted on ECO Canada’s digital platforms.
Dates to remember:
- Intent to submit: September 1, until November 15, 2024
- Paper submission deadline: December 30, 2024
- Decision date: January 15, 2024

- Eligibility: Open to students from degree-granting programs, recent graduates, and/or EPt Students in good standing with ECO Canada.
- Originality: The paper must be the applicant’s original work.
- Content: Papers can span a range of topics but should resonate with IMPACT 2025 themes:
- Artificial Intelligence/Environmental Workforce
- Auditing/Education
- Policy/Governance
- Paper Specifications: Maximum of 2000 words, APA reference style, and footnote references.
- Abstract Requirements: A concise 250-word description highlighting the paper’s relevance to the conference’s theme and streams.
- Language: Submissions are welcome in both official languages, English and French.
Community Impact Award
This award category is open to individuals, teams or organizations to shine a spotlight on community-minded projects with an environmental impact that they have been working on over the last 18 months, or have been completed.
Rules surrounding nominations:
- Must not be nominated in the Top Employer category.
- The project must have been completed within the last 18 months, or in progress towards completion.
- ECO Impact sponsors or event speakers are not eligible/must not be associated with any nomination.
- Employees of nominated organizations/groups are not allowed to vote.
Deadline for Submissions: October 31st, 2024
- Submission/Project Name
- A project summary (750 words max) that includes the following:
- Bio of the person(s)/organization/group submitting the nomination
- Details of how the nomination aligns with ECO Canada’s values of being a steward for the Canadian environmental workforce across all industries and to promote and drive responsible, sustainable economic growth while also ensuring that environmental care and best practice is a priority
- Details on the nomination’s environmental community impact (feel-good projects that have an environmental benefit)
- Date of project (timeline and/or date of completion)
- A 3-5-minute video detailing the community impact and/or environmental contribution
- Bio of the person(s)/organization/group submitting the nomination
Yukon Sustainability Awards
The Yukon Sustainability awards are open to Yukon-based businesses (local businesses or subsidiaries of large corporations operating in Yukon) that demonstrate excellent performance in the area of Sustainable Economic Development and a firm commitment to Yukon’s Our Clean Future Strategy.
The Yukon Sustainability Awards are divided into three separate awards based on the number of employees and the nature of the organization’s ownership:
Organizations with up to 10 full-time employees (at any given point during the award year), including owners and partners. Businesses must operate in Yukon (Whitehorse or any other part of the Yukon Territory). For businesses outside of Yukon, only operations and performance in Yukon will be considered or the award. This also includes Indigenous-led for-profit businesses (i.e. Development Corporations).
Organizations with 10 or more full-time employees (at any given point during the award year), including owners and partners. Businesses must operate in Yukon (Whitehorse or any other part of the Yukon Territory). For businesses outside of Yukon, only operations and performance in Yukon will be considered or the award. This also includes Indigenous-led for-profit businesses (i.e. Development Corporations).
Organizations of any size. Businesses must operate in Yukon and be based in locations outside of Whitehorse and its standard commuting area. Only operations and performance in Yukon areas outside of Whitehorse will be considered for the award. This also includes Indigenous-led for-profit businesses (e.g., Development Corporations).
Companies will be assessed based on their performance and achievements in Yukon related to:
- Environmental Protection
- Sustainability Practices
- Climate Change
- Local Economic Development
- Commitment to Indigenous Participation
- Commitment to Yukon Clean Future’s Strategy
