MINA NASR

Senior Geospatial Scientist at Alberta Environment and Protected Areas

Mina has over 20 years of progressive experience in environmental and geospatial sciences with a specialty in mapping to address environmental concerns. Through her work, she is able to open new avenues for improvements in environmental monitoring, aiming to minimize adverse environmental impacts through analysis and tracking heavily affected areas. Utilizing growing technologies and innovations in generating highly detailed and informative maps, she is driven to inspire the younger generation to explore opportunities in this dynamic and evolving industry to positively impact communities and contribute to a healthier planet.  

Born and raised in Iran, her passion for environmental science has been a driving force, expanding through her education and career in Canada while completing a Ph.D. in New Brunswick and working as an Environmental Professional in Alberta. She enjoys outdoor activities and cherish moments with family and friends. 

GABRIELA SILVA

Manager, Sustainability, TransAlta Corporation

Dr. Gabriela Silva is a senior leader with 20 years of experience in sustainability and climate change in the energy sector. She’s the Manager of sustainability at TransAlta, where she leads the company’s global sustainability and climate strategy and reporting including net-zero target setting. She’s a public member of the Climate Advisory Committee with the City of Calgary, where she provides advice to the City Council on climate mitigation and adaptation strategies. She’s the Co-Chair of the Energy Sector Sustainability Leadership Initiative in Calgary, an industry-led group that collaborates to tackle sustainability and climate challenges. 

In her previous roles, she has managed environmental and climate technical work with PETRONAS Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, United Nations Environment Programme, WorleyParsons and PETROBRAS. She holds a Ph.D. in environmental science from the University of Quebec’s National Institute of Scientific Research and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She’s the winner of Best ESG Reporting by the Investor Relations Magazine Awards, Canada 2023. 

ANAHITA JAMI

Energy Efficiency & Bioenergy Project Manager

Dr. Anahita Jami is a Project Manager with CSA Group, managing standards development activities and
conducting business development initiatives to expand the program portfolio into new areas focusing on
bioenergy and energy efficiency.

She has several years of research experience in the realm of sustainability and has authored a number of peer-reviewed publications. Throughout her career in the automotive industry, she managed Six Sigma projects that resulted in significant eco-efficiency. She also served as an environmental coordinator in the natural gas industry while completing her graduate studies in Environmental Applied Science & Management at Toronto Metropolitan University.
