Climate is changing. There is a widespread acknowledgement that this change presents some unique implications for communities, especially those that are closely dependent on the land and its resources. It is important for Indigenous communities to be knowledgeable about climate change and how they can mitigate and adapt to the changes arising as a result.

In this session, you will learn how to:

  • Outline the impacts of the changing climate on Indigenous communities
  • Determine the critical factors for successful climate change adaptation planning
  • Identify the steps required to initiate and implement adaptation planning within a community

Project management is an essential skill for most environmental professionals. There are many skills required to become a successful project manager to ensure your projects stay on track right from the beginning through to completion with minimal deviations. The combination of technical and soft skills required to be successful can be difficult to navigate, as there are so many moving pieces and daily tasks are rarely the same.

In this session, you will learn how to:

  • Identify and apply key technical skills within in the project life cycle to ensure successful project execution
  • Apply essential soft skills to everyday tasks to keep projects on track

Technical writing is a unique skillset that is of utmost importance for environmental professionals; there are components of it integrated into all aspects of everyday work and sometimes tasks can feel daunting if you don’t know where to start or if you lack a clear process for writing. Technical expertise and effective writing must be well integrated to achieve a clear, concise, well-written document that gets your message across to the target audience.

In this session, you will learn how to:

  • Articulate the importance of understanding your audience and tailoring your writing accordingly
  • Tell a story with your writing to increase the effectiveness and readability of your document
  • Identify and explain common document issues and how they can impact your writing

The Environmental Professional (EP) designation is Canada’s only environmental designation. It allows individuals to showcase their expertise and be part of a passionate community of professionals looking to lead the sector. EPs across Canada are working on incredible initiatives that position them as sector leaders. In this session, you will hear from featured EPs on their contributions to innovation within the environmental sector.
