Birgit Isernhagen

Birgit Isernhagen serves as the Climate Change Policy Lead for Ottawa Public Health, where she is co-located with the City of Ottawa’s Strategic Initiatives Department. She holds a Master of Science degree from McGill University and has maintained the Environmental Professional (EP) designation for over 15 years. With 22 years of service at the City of Ottawa, Birgit brings extensive experience in environmental management, climate change, public policy, development review, and public health.

Her multidisciplinary background has provided her with deep insight into the built environment, environmental sustainability, and climate change mitigation and adaptation. Throughout her career, Birgit has worked collaboratively across sectors to protect both human and environmental health, leveraging her expertise to advance integrated and resilient policy solutions.

Land Acknowledgment

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we acknowledge that we live, work, and gather on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, including the Blackfoot Confederacy—comprising the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations—as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina Nations.

This land, known as Moh’kinsstis in the Blackfoot language and encompassing what is now Districts 5 and 6, is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.

We recognize and honour the deep connection these Nations have to the land, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share in its stewardship.
