Eryn Beddoes has demonstrated exceptional leadership at Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP), driving innovative greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction strategies that have positioned the institution as a leader in sustainability. Through initiatives like the Green Campus Master Plan, Eryn has implemented cutting-edge solutions such as energy-efficient technologies, renewable energy generation, and real-time emissions monitoring. Her strategic efforts have significantly reduced RDP’s carbon footprint, saving energy costs and advancing the institution’s ambitious Net-Zero Energy and Carbon targets. Eryn’s expertise, which helped develop emissions-tracking tools and pilot new technologies, has inspired communities and institutions nationwide to adopt similar practices.
Eryn goes beyond infrastructure to cultivate a culture of sustainability through collaboration, community engagement, and education. As the leader of RDP’s Green Campus Working Group, she empowers staff, students, and faculty to actively participate in clean-up programs, sustainable transportation campaigns, and educational workshops. On a national level, Eryn champions the UN Sustainable Development Goals. She plays a key role in the CICan Scope 3 GHG Emissions Working Group, setting new benchmarks for sustainability within the education sector. Some of her projects, include advancing energy-efficient campus infrastructure and co-developing sustainable trades modules, highlight her forward-thinking approach. Eryn’s vision and leadership have made a lasting impact at RDP and beyond, solidifying her as a deserving recipient of the Sustainability Trailblazers Award.
In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we acknowledge that we live, work, and gather on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, including the Blackfoot Confederacy—comprising the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations—as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina Nations.
This land, known as Moh’kinsstis in the Blackfoot language and encompassing what is now Districts 5 and 6, is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.
We recognize and honour the deep connection these Nations have to the land, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share in its stewardship.
As we continue our work, we commit to learning from Indigenous knowledge systems, uplifting Indigenous voices, and fostering relationships rooted in equity, understanding, and reconciliation.
