Toyin Adekanmbi

Toyin Adekanmbi is a project officer intern at Albarka Health Spring Foundation supporting climate-health-related projects. Convinced that all areas and works of life are impacted by and impacting climate change, her transdisciplinary interest spans climate change, environment, community engagement, and policy to inform sustainability goals.

Toyin’s previous roles were with the Government of Prince Edward Island, the Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation, the University of Prince Edward Island, Bells University of Technology, Nigeria and not-for-profit organizations. She holds an M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences from UPEI, a B.Sc. in Chemistry and an Advanced Diploma in Applied Chemistry. She authored peer-reviewed articles and presented her work internationally. She is a grateful recipient of highly competitive, prestigious international awards and scholarships, e.g., PEO-IPS.

Training and accomplishment do not mean much to Toyin if they do not add value to society. Hence, she continues to volunteer for climate, community and humanitarian services.

Land Acknowledgment

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we acknowledge that we live, work, and gather on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, including the Blackfoot Confederacy—comprising the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations—as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina Nations.

This land, known as Moh’kinsstis in the Blackfoot language and encompassing what is now Districts 5 and 6, is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.

We recognize and honour the deep connection these Nations have to the land, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share in its stewardship.

As we continue our work, we commit to learning from Indigenous knowledge systems, uplifting Indigenous voices, and fostering relationships rooted in equity, understanding, and reconciliation.
