Dr. Cathy Bruce

Professor, Vice President Research & Innovation | Trent University

Dr. Cathy Bruce is Vice-President Research and Innovation at Trent University. In this role she oversees all research activity at the University, sets research priorities, oversees 16 research centres including the internationally renowned Water Quality Centre and the International Institute for Environmental Sciences. She facilitates industry-research partnerships that feed into the Cleantech Commons Research and Development Park, and supports the Research Chairs Program at Trent.

As a member of the Executive Committee of the Ontario Council of University Research, she is co-chair of the COVID impacts work group and advocates for the impact and importance of research, including valuing the role universities play in training the talent pipeline in Canada. With18 years of proven leadership in the Trent Community, Professor Bruce was previously a Dean. Her federally funded research focuses on mathematics learning and the role of spatial reasoning and self-efficacy in that learning. She has two grown sons and enjoys traveling (when possible!) where she finds very good chocolate along the way.
