Dr. John Cranfield

Dean, Ontario Agricultural College, University of Guelph

John Cranfield is Dean of the Ontario Agricultural College at the University of Guelph, where he leads one of Canada’s premier institutions in food, agriculture, environmental sciences, and rural development. A long-time faculty member, John is recognized for his expertise in agricultural economics and his commitment to advancing innovation, sustainability, and student success. He has held previous leadership roles as department chair and associate dean, and is a proud OAC alumnus. John is deeply engaged in strengthening partnerships across sectors to ensure the agri-food system remains resilient, science-driven, and globally relevant.

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we acknowledge that we live, work, and gather on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, including the Blackfoot Confederacy—comprising the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations—as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina Nations.

This land, known as Moh’kinsstis in the Blackfoot language and encompassing what is now Districts 5 and 6, is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.
