Jai Ragunathan is an educator and practitioner with over 20 years of experience in ocean technology and active engagement across the Blue Economy. He teaches in the marine and ocean technology areas at Memorial University, where he is recognized for his commitment to innovative and applied teaching. In recognition of his impact in the classroom, he is the recipient of the Vice-President’s Inaugural Teaching Award.
Jai is an internationally sought-after speaker on ocean technology, autonomous systems, and workforce development, and continues to work closely with industry, government, and academic partners on applied ocean tech projects. His curriculum leadership includes the development of autonomous ocean technology programs in collaboration with the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), as well as significant contributions to ocean and marine curriculum development initiatives in Canada, South Korea, and India.

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we acknowledge that we live, work, and gather on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, including the Blackfoot Confederacy—comprising the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations—as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina Nations.
This land, known as Moh’kinsstis in the Blackfoot language and encompassing what is now Districts 5 and 6, is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.
