Dr. Jamie Miller is a leader and award-winning specialist in Biomimicry and Regenerative Design. Currently, he serves as the Director of Regenerative Design and Biomimicry, a joint appointment between B+H and Atelier Ten. In this role, his work bridges science, design, and Indigenous knowledge to create projects that aim to actively contribute to the ecological and cultural resilience of place.
Jamie has led sustainability consultancy Biomimicry Frontiers and founded Biomimicry Commons, an education and incubator space that Fast Company named a “World Changing Idea.” He holds a PhD in engineering, specializing in urban resilience and systems-based biomimicry. Previously co-director of OCAD University’s biomimicry program, his deep understanding of biomimicry was shaped by Indigenous Elders and Janine Benyus. His work represents a pioneering shift in our industry, shaping strategies that work with natural systems rather than against them.
Key Message for attendees:
It’s expensive fighting nature and the most practical way for us to move forward is to dance with nature and let nature lead. This presentation will explore how we are doing that in a built environment.

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we acknowledge that we live, work, and gather on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, including the Blackfoot Confederacy—comprising the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations—as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina Nations.
This land, known as Moh’kinsstis in the Blackfoot language and encompassing what is now Districts 5 and 6, is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.
We recognize and honour the deep connection these Nations have to the land, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share in its stewardship.
As we continue our work, we commit to learning from Indigenous knowledge systems, uplifting Indigenous voices, and fostering relationships rooted in equity, understanding, and reconciliation.
