With over 35 years of experience in building operations, sustainability, and strategic capital planning, Ward has built a career at the intersection of innovation, efficiency, and decarbonization. As the Founder of DCarb Inc., a Calgary-based sustainability consulting firm, Ward has dedicated his expertise to transforming the built environment—helping organizations reduce carbon footprints while enhancing net operating income (NOI) and asset value.

Throughout his career, Ward has led ambitious carbon reduction projects, including the design of potentially the largest office conversion to Net Zero in Canada. His strategic leadership in securing over $225 million in funding for large-scale sustainability initiatives has paved the way for significant greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions. His ability to integrate energy efficiency with capital planning has not only improved environmental performance but also delivered millions in operational savings for asset owners and developers.

A champion of renewable energy adoption, Ward has designed solar and energy offset projects to maximize sustainability in commercial and industrial properties. His work in HVAC optimization, preventative maintenance, and process development has driven operational excellence, reducing work orders by 30% and improving tenant satisfaction across Western Canada.

His influence extends beyond individual projects—he has served as a trusted advisor to start-ups and Proptech companies, providing strategic guidance on project management, sustainability strategies, and innovative solutions that redefine how the industry approaches energy efficiency and asset performance. His work with multiple technical advisory and sustainability groups has helped shape best practices in SMART buildings, carbon reduction strategies, and capital investment planning.

At the heart of his work is a passion for driving meaningful change—leveraging his deep industry knowledge to bridge the gap between sustainability goals and financial performance. Whether leading large-scale infrastructure transformations, optimizing energy systems, or advising on next-generation real estate technology, Ward remains committed to creating a resilient, decarbonized future for the built environment.

Land Acknowledgment

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we acknowledge that we live, work, and gather on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, including the Blackfoot Confederacy—comprising the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations—as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina Nations.

This land, known as Moh’kinsstis in the Blackfoot language and encompassing what is now Districts 5 and 6, is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.

We recognize and honour the deep connection these Nations have to the land, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share in its stewardship.

As we continue our work, we commit to learning from Indigenous knowledge systems, uplifting Indigenous voices, and fostering relationships rooted in equity, understanding, and reconciliation.
