Alex Stephens is an Associate Director, Research & Evaluation at Future Skills Centre based in Toronto, Ontario. Previously, Alex was a Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning Specialist at Colleges and Institutes Canada. Since 2001, Alex has been working on various initiatives related to education, skills and labour market development issues. He began his career as a researcher with the Canadian Labour and Business Centre where he contributed to many projects dealing with skills shortages in Canada.
Between 2006 and 2012, Alex headed up two organizations dedicated to skills-related research and knowledge mobilization—the Canadian Council on Learning’s Work and Learning Knowledge Centre and the Centre for Workplace Skills. In 2013, Alex became involved in supporting capacity-building of technical and vocational education systems in the Global South as an employee of Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan). During his time with CICan, he was the in-country head of its program in Mozambique, the manager responsible for monitoring, evaluation and learning for CICan’s international cooperation programs, and a consultant to programs in different countries.
