Caroline Karvonen is the Senior Director ESG and Sustainability at SmartCentres – a real estate investment trust focusing on retail shopping centres with 185 prime locations coast-to-coast. The REIT is evolving with the SmartLiving brand building residential developments and city centres at these locations.
Caroline’s career has been focused in the ESG and sustainability fields, with experience at municipal and provincial governments, and commercial real estate. For the previous 12 years she led award winning sustainability strategies and initiatives at Alectra in the electricity distribution space.
Caroline has a background in geography and urban studies from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Master’s degree in Environment and Resource Studies from the University of Waterloo. In 2021, she was named to the Clean50 as one of Canada’s sustainability leaders.
